Microneedling
Support smoother-looking skin with a treatment designed to work with your skin’s natural repair process. Microneedling may improve the appearance of certain acne scars, fine lines, and uneven texture. At PRÈSSE, treatment planning begins with understanding your concerns, your skin history, and the results you hope to achieve.
How microneedling works
Microneedling uses a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This initiates a repair response that includes collagen remodeling. Collagen helps provide structure to the skin, but changes develop gradually. The aim is progressive improvement in texture and the appearance of scarring rather than an immediate transformation.
Acne scars and active acne are different concerns. Microneedling may be considered for some scars after breakouts are controlled, but it should not be performed over active infections or inflamed acne. A consultation helps determine whether this treatment fits your skin’s current condition.
What to expect
Your provider reviews your skin and health history before cleansing and preparing the treatment area. Topical numbing may be used to improve comfort. During treatment, you may notice pressure, vibration, or a scratching sensation. Skin can look flushed and feel warm or tight afterward. Temporary dryness, flaking, tenderness, and mild swelling are also possible.
Frequently asked questions
What concerns can microneedling help improve?
It may help soften the appearance of certain depressed acne scars, fine lines, and irregular texture. Suitability depends on the type of concern and the treatment device. Deep scars may need a combination of medical treatments, and microneedling does not remove every scar or permanently eliminate visible pores.
Does microneedling hurt?
Numbing can reduce discomfort, but the treatment is not completely sensation-free. Some areas are more sensitive than others. Tell your provider if you feel significant pain so they can reassess rather than expecting you to push through it.
How many treatments will I need?
A series may be recommended, with appointments spaced far enough apart for recovery. Your starting skin condition, response to treatment, and goals determine the number and timing. Your provider should reassess healing before each session instead of following a fixed schedule regardless of your skin’s response.
When will I see results?
Changes develop over weeks to months as the skin remodels. Early swelling can temporarily make skin look fuller, so the immediate appearance does not represent the final result. Consistent photographs taken under similar lighting can help track gradual progress.
How much downtime should I plan for?
Expect visible redness and sensitivity for several days, although recovery can be longer. Treatment intensity and individual healing affect the timeline. Schedule well ahead of major events and contact your provider if symptoms are worsening, unusually uncomfortable, or not resolving as expected.
How should I prepare and care for my skin afterward?
Share all medications, skincare products, recent procedures, and previous reactions. Arrive without a sunburn or active irritation. Follow your provider’s written instructions for cleansing, approved moisturizers, sun protection, makeup, exercise, and restarting active ingredients. Do not apply unapproved products to freshly treated skin or stop prescribed medication on your own.
Is microneedling right for every skin type?
Many skin tones may be candidates, but pigmentation changes, infection, and scarring are possible. Tell your provider about keloids, cold sores, bleeding problems, poor healing, immune conditions, pregnancy, and past treatment reactions. These details may change the plan or mean treatment should be postponed.
